Windows PC
Split a PDF on Windows 10 or 11 (free, no upload)
Quick answer: add the PDF here in Edge or Chrome, type the pages you want (for example 1-3, 5, 8-12) and choose either one PDF with those pages or each page as its own PDF, then download (several files come as a ZIP). Nothing is uploaded. Windows' own workaround is to print the page range to Microsoft Print to PDF, which works for one range at a time.

Security & privacy detailsHow this tool helps
Split a PDF into separate files or extract specific pages with visual precision. Upload your PDF and see thumbnail previews of every page. Click to select the pages you want to extract, or use range input (e.g., 1-3, 5, 8-12) for quick selection. Download individual pages or all selected pages as separate PDFs in a ZIP file. Ideal for extracting chapters from books, pulling specific pages from contracts, or breaking large documents into manageable sections. Every page preview is rendered in your browser, and the splitting process never sends your document to any server. Use it when you need to split for upload limits, split a PDF by file size (via page ranges), delete pages before splitting.

Splitting PDFs on a Windows PC
Splitting is usually about upload limits or privacy: sending just the payslip page, not the whole pack, or breaking a large scan into parts a portal will accept.
What is the built-in Windows way?
Open the PDF in Edge, press Ctrl+P, set the printer to Microsoft Print to PDF, and under Pages choose a custom range such as 3-5. Click Print and name the new file. It is fine for one range, but you repeat it for each part, and the printed copy loses links and bookmarks.
How do I write the page range?
Use commas between parts and a dash for a run: 1-3, 5, 8-12 gives pages 1, 2, 3, 5 and 8 to 12. Page numbers are the PDF's own page positions, which may differ from the numbers printed on the pages.
Splitting to get under an upload limit
If a portal caps each file at, say, 5MB, splitting a large scan into parts is often better than compressing it hard, because the pages stay sharp and the text stays selectable. If one part is still too big, compress just that part.
Free limits
Files up to 50MB and 3 tasks a day are free, and the PDF is never uploaded. A one-off Pro pass removes the limits.
Before you upload/share
- Open the PDF and check every page before you send or upload it.
- Keep the original files until the recipient or portal has accepted the document.
Frequently asked questions
Can I split a PDF on Windows without software?
Partly. Open the PDF in Edge, press Ctrl+P, choose Microsoft Print to PDF, set Pages to the range you want and click Print to save it. It only does one range at a time, and links are not kept. This page splits several ranges or every page in one go.
How do I save each page as a separate PDF?
Leave the page box blank (or type a range), choose Each page as separate PDF, run it, then download the files individually or as one ZIP.
Does splitting reduce quality?
No. Pages are copied as they are, so text stays sharp and selectable.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The PDF is opened and processed by your browser on your own computer. No request sends the file to PDFWhisk, which you can check yourself in the browser's Network panel (F12 in Edge or Chrome) while the tool runs.
