Mortgage docs
Compress PDF for mortgage applications
Mortgage lender and broker portals require bank statements, payslips, and supporting evidence as individual PDF uploads — typically under 5MB per file. Compress each document locally so sensitive financial details are never sent to an external server, then review that figures and dates are clearly legible.

Intent guide
Mortgage paperwork is mostly bank statements, payslips and ID, often downloaded from banking apps or scanned on a phone. Those files vary hugely in size.
Downloaded statements versus scanned ones
A statement downloaded from online banking is usually small already (well under 1MB) and rarely needs compressing; uploading it as downloaded keeps it in the form lenders most readily accept. A photographed or scanned statement can be 5MB to 20MB, and that is the one to compress.
One file per document, named clearly
Lender and broker portals usually want each item uploaded separately: three payslips, three months of statements, your P60, ID. Name files so a case handler can see what they are (payslip-2026-08.pdf) and compress each one to the portal's limit, rather than merging everything into one large file.
What must stay readable
Underwriters check names, addresses, account numbers, salary credits, dates and the employer's name. After compressing, zoom in on the smallest print on each page. If figures have blurred, use a larger target size.
Removing pages you were not asked for
If you only need to show three months but downloaded six, remove the extra pages with Delete Pages before compressing; the file shrinks and you share less. Do not edit or hide transactions on the pages you do send: lenders treat altered statements very seriously.
Before you upload/share
- Open the PDF and check every page before you send or upload it.
- Keep the original files until the recipient or portal has accepted the document.

What size do mortgage portals typically require?
Most lender and broker portals accept individual uploads up to 5MB or 10MB. Check the portal's guidance — limits are usually shown on the upload page.

Yes. PDFWhisk processes files locally without sending them to any server. Bank statements, payslips, and financial correspondence stay on your device.
How many months of statements do I typically need?
Most lenders require three months of bank statements and payslips. Compress each PDF separately and review that all transactions and figures are clearly readable.
